New Year's resolutions are full of clichés and empty promises but a clinical psychologist at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has some sound advice that might just help a little.
William McCann, director of behavioral science education in Wake Forest Baptist's family medicine department, said: "I think most people make resolutions that they don't achieve for many reasons, often because they seem so overwhelming. Doing a little bit is like a seed that might grow. Start little and see what happens...we should lower our expectations because we want to be able to say to ourselves by next Dec. 31st - 'I did it!'"
In relation to what William McCann mentioned above, I've decided to create a New Year's Resolution list I'm sure I will be able to follow through on. Here they are:
1. I will save a little more this year instead of spending too much on some not-so-really-important-stuffs. (But, of course, this doesn't mean that I won't get a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 if I have extra budget. Thanks to my fellow Quality Analyst Arjay for "motivating" me too buy. Lol!)
2. I will talk a little less this year and listen a little more.
3. I will spend my time a little less on Facebook (which I've actually started second quarter of 2012), spend a little more on Twitter (and gain more followers...lol) and spend a little more on blogging (and earn more from Google Adsense).
4. I will travel a little more this year provided that I have extra money. My next destination is Davao (online booking done. Thank you ZestAir!)
5. I will visit Bicol a little more this year provided that I have extra money. Online booking done. Thank you ZestAir!
6. I will eat a little less of chicken this year. I need to stick to fish and veggies. NO TO PORK!
7. I will try a little more not be "harsh" to those people who are "harsh" to me - I mean those "narrow-minded-backstabbing-lovers" people. Lol!
8. I will ALWAYS love number 8 - which is why I only posted 8 New Year's Resolution here on my blog. I am 1/16 Chinese (which is unfortunate because I've always wanted to be 1/2 Chinese) and 8 is a lucky number for the Chinese people. So, why is the number 8 considered lucky in the minds of Chinese people. The main reason has to do with the pronunciation of the word for the number 8 in China. It is pronounced "ba" and sounds like the word for prosperity which is pronounced "fa". Another reason why the number 8 could be considered lucky is because it is a perfect symmetrical shape. You can cut the number 8 in half vertically or horizontally, and both halves mirror themselves perfectly. Perfect symmetry lends itself to perfect balance.
Lets have a prosperous and a Happy New Year! More money please....
