New Designs of Philippine Peso Bills

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has finally came up with the New Generation design of Philippine Banknotes which, so far, include the new 500-peso bill with both Noynoy and Cory. Amazing! But we need not worry because the old bills that we have will still be valid for three years.

According to President Ninoy Aquino III at the  the launching of the New Generation Philippine Bank Notes: "It is my privilege to be here as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas launches a new generation of banknotes. This is the first overhaul of our banknotes in a generation. These notes, then, are aportrait of changing times and of the enduring tapestry of our history. Let me thank all the artists, the designers, the consultants, the printers, and all BSP staff members who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this project."

You can still see Josefa Llanes Escoda, Vicente P. Lim, and Jose Abad Santos at the front on the bill. Presented at the back are the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park and the South Sea Pearl, which is produced by oysters that thrive in the South Seas.

Manuel L. Quezon is the face of the bill but with new designs and at the back are the Banaue Rice Terraces which we can see on the old 1000 peso bill and a palm civet from the Cordilleras.

Still Sergio Osmeña is the face of the 50 peso bill with a silhouette of Leyte’s Landing Mark by Gen. MacArthur arrival. On the reverse is the Taal Lake and the Giant Trevally (locally known as Maliputo), a delicious milky fish.

Manuel A. Roxas still appear on the bill with a new bluish color and violet. And at the reverse you will see the world’s perfect cone Mayon Volcano and “butanding” or whale shark, the world’s largest living fish which is the main attraction of Donsol, Sorsogon.

At the front, Diosdado Macapagal appears on the P200 bill. A picture of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her oath-taking ceremony in 2001 appears on the bottom left corner.
At the back of the bill, the Chocolate Hills of Bohol and the Philippine tarsier, one of the world’s smallest primates usually found in Bohol Island.
