Universities and Colleges in Baguio City

I strongly agree with what my former classmate at UP Baguio told me a few days back. Baguio City is not only the summer Capital of the Philippines, it is also the educational center of the North. An apparent proof of this is the number of universities and colleges located in the city. Following are some of the notable universities and colleges located in Baguio City (alphabetically arranged):

1. Baguio Central University - is a school in Baguio City, Philippines. It is owned and managed by Margarita Fernandez. The nursing course is popular in this university.

2. Pines City Colleges - private, famous and coeducational establishment in Baguio City, Pines City Colleges focuses on providing quality education to students who want to pursue careers in the health sector. This school does not just offer good educational programs to students in tertiary level but also to students in elementary and tertiary level. In addition, Pines City Colleges owns a hospital where its nursing students take their internship programs.

3. Saint Louis University - Saint Louis University (SLU) is one of the best educational institutions in the Philippines. SLU was granted Full Autonomy Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) from 2001 to 2006 and was renewed for 2007 to 2012. SLU is ranked 1st outside Metro Manila and 3rd nationwide among 1,188 tertiary schools based on the compilation of performance of schools in various licensure examinations by the CHED-PRC Educational Statistics Task Force (ESTF).

4. University of Baguio - is one of the leading educational institutions in the country. It was granted the Autonomous Status Award by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) last March 11, 2009 thus making UB the only non-sectarian university in the entire Cordillera Region. This makes the University as among only 42 private higher educational institutions in over 2,000 schools throughout the country that has been granted an Autonomous Status.

5. University of the Cordilleras - formerly known as Baguio Colleges Foundation (BCF), is a private university in Baguio City, Philippines. The school is situated near the city market, Our Lady of Atonement Church (the Baguio Cathedral), hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls.

6. University of the Philippines Baguio - UP Baguio remains at the forefront of the academic community in Northern Luzon, guided by the principles of scholastic excellence, academic freedom and nationalism. As articulated in its vision paper of 2002, UP Baguio continues ”...to nurture and develop innovative programs in the arts and sciences. It will also continue to develop the niche it has created over the past decades in the Cordillera studies.” UP Baguio has indeed created an impact in the region by informing its curricular, research and extension service programs with a regional perspective without losing track of national and global contexts.
